Dr Amos MAJULE
Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Resources Assessment, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Dr Majule is a Pproject Team Leader and recentlyhas been promoted to Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Resource Assessment (IRA), University of Dar es Salaam. He was previously employed by the Ministry of Agricultural and Food Security, Department of Research and Training in 1991 as Soil scientist III, where he worked at the Naliendele Agricultural Research and Development Institute in Mtwara, Southern Tanzania as Head of Department, Zonal Soil Scientist. He was involved in designing of both on station and on-farm agronomic research projects in the cashew/ cassava farming system. Major research areas supervised were related to testing fertilizer rates, agroforestry and long term indigenous soil fertility management studies.

After completing his PhD he joined IRA as a Research Fellow and continues to work in the field of Soil Science but has diversified into wider poverty and environmental issues. These have included a number of climate change and adaptation studies e.g. involvement in the Climate-Environment-Human-Interactions in Africa (CLEHA) project which is modeling soil erosion in Lake Masoko catchment and learning about the communities long-term perceptions of climate change; coordination of the KITE project which is exploring relationships between ecosystem dynamics, climate change and human impacts in East Africa. He is/ has also been involved in several other research projects including: Preparation of the Area Management Plan for the Lower Kihansi; River Songwe Catchment Trans Boundary Project; studies on Resource Poor Environments and Poverty Alleviation in Mbinga District; Enhancing Agricultural Productivity through Sustainable Irrigation as an adaptation mechanism to climate change and variability; Role of non wood food forest products on poverty and environment in S. Tanzania, Evaluation of the effects of organic residue additions in soils on crop yields in southern Tanzania.

He is currently in the National Technical Advisory Committee for the Trans-boundary Agro-ecosystem Management Project of the Lower Kagera River Basin and teaches on a M.Sc. Climate Change Variability and Adaptations Degree course (RM 608) at IRA.

Project role/responsibility:He is the Project team leader also also will be responsible for communication with and submission of reports to IDRC, overall project coordination and management of all project activities in Tanzania. Development of research methodologies, research team member, linking and sharing of relevant information with other CC&V adaptation studies in Tanzania.
